The Dropout on Hulu Is a Perfect Weekend Binge

The Dropout is an eight-episode Hulu miniseries released in 2022 that makes for a tight, bingeable thriller. Amanda Seyfried leads as Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos founder whose promise of revolutionary blood tests ultimately collapsed. The series opens in 2002 with Holmes as a Stanford student in Beijing and traces her decision to leave school, her unwavering belief in the idea, and the unraveling that follows.

Episode 8, "Lizzy," brings the story’s choices and consequences to a dark, heavy head, and the show repeatedly returns to themes of dreams, reality, self-belief, and trauma. Holmes received an 11-year prison sentence in 2022 and, at the time of writing, is set for release on Aug.
