Renewed interest in adapting the Bible for television has grown in the past decade, and Fox's The Faithful: Women of the Bible arrives as part of that wave. The six-part miniseries is set to air over three Sundays leading up to Easter — March 22, March 29, and April 5 — and aims to center the matriarchs of Genesis who shaped the lineages of Israel and, later, Jesus Christ.

The Faithful structures its three nights around different heroines: Sarah (Minnie Driver) and Hagar (Natacha Karam) open the saga, followed by Rebekah (Alexa Davalos) and, finally, Leah (Millie Brady) and Rachel (Blu Hunt) in the Jacob chapters. With actors like Jeffrey Donovan as Abraham, Tom Mison as Isaac and Tom Payne as Jacob rounding out the ensemble, the series promises a female-focused retelling of familiar material.

Production values are a strength.
