In the era of streamers and reaction videos, part of the appeal of a new horror game is watching creators flinch. Resident Evil Requiem splits its tone: the Leon sections ramp up the action and send players into a state of violent bliss, while the Grace segments are full of genuinely horrifying monsters and leave you with few tools to fight them.

Early in a Grace segment, the FBI agent wakes in a care center crawling with zombies and the living results of grotesque experiments. One of those creatures is known as the Girl: a giant monster that chases Grace with a childlike fixation. She wants to "play" with Grace, which in Requiem terms means she wants to eat her.

Players soon discover the Girl has an aversion to light. A working overhead light will make her skin burn, so the few lit rooms become safe havens. Requiem refuses to let that comfort last: if you repeatedly bait the Girl into a lit room she first recoils, then climbs into the ceiling and tears the wiring out of the overhead light.
