The Killing: a gripping reboot crime series for true crime fans
The Killing is an American reboot of the Danish series Forbrydelsen, developed by Veena Sud. The four-season series is currently available to stream on Hulu and AMC+ and has been praised as one of the stronger entries in the crime genre. It is not based on a true-crime story but is known for its stark, almost arresting realism.
The story centers on Seattle detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder, who investigate the murder of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen after her body is found in the trunk of a car belonging to a government figure. Seasons 1 and 2 follow that case, while Seasons 3 and 4 move on to two different murder investigations.
The American adaptation shifts focus to the two lead characters, whereas the Danish original mostly centers on Inspector Sarah Lund. Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman anchor the series with intense performances and notable chemistry, supported by actors including Billy Campbell, Brent Sexton, Peter Sarsgaard, Amy Seimetz, and Elias Koteas.
