The Mandalorian and Grogu's Super Bowl trailer disappoints
In a few months The Mandalorian and Grogu will be leaving the small screen for theaters. Our first look since season 3 teased the return of the Razor Crest, new allies with the appearance of Sigourney Weaver, and epic cage fights, but not much else. The 36-second Super Bowl trailer — which shows Mando (Din Djarin) and his ward Grogu riding on a wagon pulled by tauntauns — left a feeling worse than disappointment: apathy.
With such a big jump from TV to cinema, one would expect Lucasfilm and Disney to bring their A-game rather than rely on the cute factor of their mascot character. It’s been nearly seven years since the franchise hit movie theaters. J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker leaned heavily on nostalgia but still understood a trailer’s job: tease answers, inspire more, and showcase frenetic battles and beautiful cinematography to sell the otherworldliness of a galaxy far, far away.
The Mandalorian and Grogu’s Super Bowl spot, by contrast, inspires only boredom.
