The Monster Squad (1987) streams free on Tubi

The 1980s produced many enduring horror films, and one that assembled a literal lineup of classic ghouls is The Monster Squad. Directed by Fred Dekker and co-written with Shane Black, the 1987 film gathered Universal's iconic monsters for a family-friendly adventure and has just been added to Tubi’s free streaming library.

Over the years it has built a devoted cult following, inspiring documentaries about the fans who have kept the film in the cultural conversation. The story follows Sean Crenshaw and a band of horror-obsessed kids who learn about an amulet that can control the monsters.

Dracula returns to the human realm and is joined by the Mummy, the Gill-man and the Wolf Man as they seek the amulet. Frankenstein’s monster also appears but refuses to side with Dracula and instead befriends Sean’s sister Phoebe. Using the journal of vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing and unexpected help from Frankenstein’s creation, the children mount a stand against the powerful vampire.
