The Mummy Films Surge on Streaming as Brendan Fraser Prepares to Return

The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns climbed HBO Max’s Top Movies worldwide over the weekend, with The Mummy Returns at #2 between Jurassic World Rebirth and Alien and The Mummy at #8 between Hulk and Locke. The first film is also due back in theaters for its 25th anniversary in a few weeks, prompting renewed interest from fans.

The franchise began in 1999 with Stephen Sommers’s remake and follows Brendan Fraser as adventurer Rick O’Connell facing a resurrected mummy. Both films earned more than $400 million each at the box office; The Mummy received an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound, and the sequel picked up four Saturn Award nominations, including Best Fantasy Film.
