The Mummy Returns to AMC for its 25th anniversary
Stephen Sommers' 2001 fantasy action-adventure The Mummy Returns will play on AMC screens on March 27 as part of its 25th anniversary. This is the sequel to the 1999 film The Mummy, not the new horror picture from Lee Cronin or the Tom Cruise reboot.
Set seven years after Imhotep's defeat, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprise their roles as Rick O'Connell and Evelyn. Now married and with a son, Alex (Freddie Boath), they face Imhotep again after Alex accidentally awakens him; John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Patricia Velasquez also return. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appears as the Scorpion King, his first acting role.
The Mummy franchise has continued since 1999, and this anniversary screening arrives as a fourth Mummy film is in the works—something fans, and Brendan Fraser, have been waiting years for. That new installment is said to bypass Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in favor of a new direction.
