Collider reports Season 2 of The Night Manager reveals Teddy Dos Santos is the illegitimate son of Richard Onslow Roper, the international arms dealer at the center of Season 1.

Season 1’s villain drew Jonathan Pine’s revenge and earned the epithet "the worst man in the world," and Season 2 positions Teddy as "Richard Roper's true disciple." The series explains Teddy’s allegiance through his parentage: his married mother's affair with Roper, a motherless childhood in a monastery, annual visits to his father and a hunger for approval that shaped his identity and ambitions.

Teddy has essentially inherited Roper’s enterprise while publicly posing as a philanthropist for displaced children; privately he is ruthless — in London he murders most of Pine’s MI6 team, holds shipping tycoon Roxana Bolaños like a pampered hostage, and tests Pine by drugging him and nearly drowning him. Pine tells Sally Price-Jones, "I feel like I'm chasing ghosts," and the show also hints at possible collaborators within the British government, leaving Pine more isolated as he confronts a far more personal threat.
