I tried The Outset's Total Clarity Dark Spot Serum, the lightweight new offering from Scarlett Johansson's clean-beauty line, to tackle the dark spots left from a sunblock-adverse youth. On days I went without makeup, strangers began telling me, unsolicited, "Your skin is glowing!" — something I rarely hear even after a facial.

The brand is built around extra-gentle formulas for sensitive skin, and this serum follows suit. It uses a vitamin C alternative that, for me, worked better than previous C serums; the texture is very lightweight and fluid, almost like water. I apply it after cleansing and toning and before moisturizer — one dropper covers my entire face — and the clear serum soaks right in.

As someone who spends long hours in front of laptops and devices, I notice blue light can leave my skin lackluster and ashen. The National Institute of Health has documented that blue light "accelerates the aging process and produces cutaneous hyperpigmentation" — uneven skin tone and spots.
