The Testaments trailer reveals Hulu's Handmaid's Tale sequel
Hulu’s new spinoff The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s sequel novel, picks up four years after the end of The Handmaid’s Tale. The series centers on Hannah—raised in Gilead as Agnes—and features One Battle After Another star Chase Infinity as the teenage Hannah.
Unlike June, who remembered the world before Gilead, Hannah was born into the dystopia, and she is raised at a preparatory school run by Aunt Lydia, once again played by Ann Dowd, who won an Emmy for her performance in the original show. The first trailer opens with an almost light-hearted school-days aesthetic: The Cranberries song 'Dreams' plays as Hannah and her friends chat and walk around campus.
Gradually, more disturbing elements bleed in, including people hanging from 'the Wall' and teenagers being instructed that women must be brought 'back to their rightful place.' By the end, Hannah and her new friend Daisy (Lucy Halliday), who’s lived outside of Gilead, are ready to fight back, a theme familiar from the original series.
