Timothée Chalamet drew backlash after saying ballet and opera are dying art forms that “no one cares about anymore” during a town hall with Matthew McConaughey that aired on CNN. The actor’s remarks went viral and were the focus of Monday’s episode of The View.

Sunny Hostin, who said she is a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, called Chalamet “offended and disappointed” and added, “I didn’t realize he was that vapid and that shallow.” Filling in co-host Sheryl Underwood blamed youth for the comment, saying, “And you sitting with Matthew McConaughey and y’all kiki-ing and chopping it up … I think he thought he could say that,” and suggesting he might respect the art more if he ever played Rudolf Nureyev.
