The Wild Robot 2 Moves Forward with New Directors and Sanders Writing
DreamWorks Animation is moving forward with a sequel to its 2024 hit The Wild Robot, two years after the original dazzled audiences and critics with a $334.5 million worldwide box office haul and a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score. The film will adapt Peter Brown's 2018 follow-up, The Wild Robot Escapes.
The book's official synopsis reads: "Shipwrecked on a remote, wild island, Robot Roz learned from the unwelcoming animal inhabitants and adapted to her surroundings—but can she survive the challenges of the civilized world and find her way home to Brightbill and the island?" Chris Sanders, who wrote and directed the first film, returns to pen the sequel but is handing directing duties to Troy Quane and Heidi Jo Gilbert.
Quane directed Spies in Disguise and the Oscar-nominated Nimona (92% on Rotten Tomatoes), while Gilbert, who served as head of story on the original, has worked on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Croods: A New Age.
