The X-Files became a pop culture sensation when it hit TV in 1993, building a loyal audience of sci‑fi and horror fans. Beyond its better‑known crossovers — from guest spots on other Fox shows to a run of spin‑offs and tie‑ins — the series also connects, somewhat quietly, to the 2007 vampire film 30 Days of Night.

30 Days of Night began as a comic by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith and was adapted into a film starring Josh Hartnett. It centers on a remote Alaskan town that endures a month of continuous darkness each year, a condition that allows a pack of brutal vampires to feed without fear of sunrise.

The movie flew largely under the radar, but its premise later drew the attention of Mulder and Scully. In 2010 IDW released a six‑issue limited series called The X‑Files/30 Days of Night.
