Thompson strike gives USWNT eighth SheBelieves Cup title
HARRISON, N.J. — Chelsea forward Alyssa Thompson delivered the decisive moment as the U.S. women’s national team beat Colombia 1-0 to claim their eighth SheBelieves Cup. Thompson’s 81st-minute strike ricocheted in off the crossbar, and she celebrated with the now-viral “Zombieland cele.” Colombia pressed early, driven by Linda Caicedo and Leicy Santos, and had the better of the first half with eight shots to the U.S.’s three; the Americans needed only a draw to secure the 2026 title.
Phallon Tullis-Joyce was called on to command the box, and Sam Coffey said at halftime it “wasn’t good enough.” Emma Hayes made a handful of changes: Tara Rudd replaced Naomi Girma at the restart, and around the hour mark Lindsey Heaps, Emma Sears, Jaedyn Shaw and Olivia Moultrie came on for Lily Yohannes, Trinity Rodman, Ally Sentnor and Rose Lavelle respectively.
Those substitutions helped the U.S.
