After two seasons of Landman, Billy Bob Thornton says his favorite moment from season two is a quiet truck scene between Tommy and Cooper, when Cooper tells his father he loves him and Tommy can’t quite bring himself to say it back. "That scene in the truck, maybe my favorite scene in season two because when he tells me that he loves me, and I just can't quite bring myself to do it, I want to, and I bite back tears," Thornton said.

"There was no acting involved in that. I had to struggle to stop from bawling at the wheel." He framed the show’s second season around family and legacy, calling it "the old sins of the father" and noting how the characters ask whether they will become what came before.

Thornton made the material personal: "Absolutely. My father was abusive, and we did not have a good relationship. My father died at 44, so we never really got the chance [to fix it], because I was 17." The cast is led by Thornton as Tommy Norris, with Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Sam Elliott as T.L.
