Thousands Rally for Regime Change in Iran Worldwide
Thousands of people took to the streets in cities around the world on Saturday to demand regime change in Iran. Many demonstrations coincided with the Munich Security Conference and followed weeks of unrest at home, where security forces crushed antigovernment protests and killed thousands.
Reza Pahlavi, the son of the deposed shah, had urged people to protest on Feb. 14 and renewed appeals for American intervention in Munich, telling leaders “Help them.” President Trump said replacing Iran’s current leadership would be “the best thing that could happen,” and he has ordered warships to the Persian Gulf as nuclear talks were expected to resume Tuesday in Geneva.
Munich police said about 200,000 people attended the demonstration there, where Mr. Pahlavi and Senator Lindsey Graham addressed the crowd. Protesters waved the pre-1979 lion-and-sun flag, carried images of Mr. Pahlavi, chanted “Regime change in Iran!” and some wore red caps reading “Make Iran Great Again.” Large rallies also took place in Melbourne, Athens, Tokyo and London.
