Three people believed to be family members were found shot dead inside a Lakewood, California, home and a fourth, a 19-year-old woman who was shot at but uninjured, survived, People reports. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies from Lakewood Station responded at approximately 8 a.m.

on Thursday, Jan. 15, to an assault with a deadly weapon call, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lt. Daniel Vizcarra said at a press conference. Local outlets reported the victims as 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro, his 48-year-old wife and the couple’s 17-year-old daughter. Vizcarra said the 19-year-old ran out of the house “extremely distraught,” and deputies found two females and a male suffering gunshot wounds to their upper torsos; those three were pronounced dead at the scene.

A gun was recovered inside the home. Authorities said a 911 caller told investigators she was awakened by gunshots before her father appeared near her and fired several shots at her; she was not struck and the father then shot himself, the sheriff’s department said. Officials said it was too early in the investigation to rule anything out or to determine whether there was a history of domestic violence, and Capt.
