TIE Fighter Total Conversion gets major update and co-op is on the table
TIE Fighter: Total Conversion, a port of 1994's TIE Fighter into 1999's X-Wing Alliance that also substantially upgrades the original, received a major update via a release trailer and an in-depth breakdown video on Feb. 27.
The update splits the project into separate installers for "Classic" and "Reimagined" versions, adds stability improvements including new "side process" executables, and gives each concourse room an HD upgrade with new art and animations. "Every single aspect has had a major facelift," mod developer Angel says in the video.
Getting here involved rebuilding TFTC for the 2025 version of the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade mod twice to cover both versions in the new release. Angel says the work has been "almost a year-long journey," and future plans under consideration include co-op and a third game version that locks the current balance so later updates can push things further; a senior editor once called TFTC "the perfect mod."
