Timothée Chalamet becomes youngest Golden Globe Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) winner
Movieweb reports Timothée Chalamet won the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards for his role as Marty Mauser in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, becoming the youngest ever winner of that category at age 30.
Chalamet took home his first Globe after four previous nominations and accepted the award alongside nominees including Ethan Hawke, George Clooney, Jesse Plemons, Lee Byung-Hun and Leonardo DiCaprio. On stage he said, "I'm in a category with many greats. This category is stacked. I look up to all of you," and the ceremony included a moment described in the report as DiCaprio providing an unintentional selection of memes for the internet.
Critics and audiences hailed his turn as a ping-pong prodigy as a "career-best performance," and the piece notes Chalamet trained for seven years beginning in 2018 to prepare for the role, which is loosely based on Marty Reisman. He is already the youngest recipient of the SAG Award (age 29 for A Complete Unknown) and won a Critics' Choice Award at age 30 for Marty Supreme earlier this month; Marty Supreme was released December 19, 2025, and is directed by Josh Safdie with a runtime of 150 minutes.
The report says Chalamet is considered a strong contender for the Academy Awards in March, where he could become the second-youngest Best Actor winner after Adrien Brody, who was 29 when he won in 2002.
