Timothy Busfield, the actor and director, turned himself in to authorities in New Mexico on Tuesday and was being booked on child sex abuse charges at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, the Albuquerque Police Department said. Mr. Busfield is 68. The warrant, signed on Friday by a Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court judge, charged him with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.

Police said the case involves two 11-year-old boys who were appearing on a television drama Mr. Busfield was producing in New Mexico. A police affidavit said the alleged offenses took place in 2022 and that investigators began the probe last year after a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital requested a sexual-abuse investigation and said it appeared the boys were being groomed.

In forensic interviews, both boys, who are related, said Mr. Busfield had touched them inappropriately; one boy told a therapist, a pediatrician and a forensic interviewer that Mr. Busfield entered a bedroom on the show’s set and touched his penis and buttocks over his clothing. The affidavit said that in a phone interview Mr.

Busfield told investigators he had “probably tickled” the boys and described the set as a “playful environment,” and that he suggested the allegations were revenge by the boys’ mother after they were not brought back for the final season of the show. Warner Bros.
