Pagesix reports Tish Cyrus said she "self‑medicated" with weed following the "tragic" death of her mother, Loretta Finley, and the breakdown of her marriage to Billy Ray Cyrus during an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of the podcast The Squeeze with host Tay Lautner.

Cyrus said she had been "a major weed smoker" and that, as "a huge believer in plant medicine," smoking at that time "was almost like medicine for me" and "kinda numbed all that pain." She described having long‑standing anxiety and said that when she first stopped smoking she experienced "full‑on anxiety to the point, [of] like, not functioning," adding she did not initially realize she had been using weed to cope.

Her mother, whom Miley Cyrus affectionately called "Mammie," died at 85 in 2020, and Cyrus said her marriage began to fall apart not long after. Tish filed for divorce from Billy Ray in April 2022 after 29 years of marriage, listing irreconcilable differences and saying they had not lived together since February 2020. She credited therapy with helping her work through anxiety and the smoking habit and said she has since married Dominic Purcell (August 2023) and is "so much better."
