Tom Ellis Leads CIA Spin-Off as Loose-Cannon Agent in New Promo
CIA premieres on CBS after a long development run that began in early 2025 and moved straight to series without a backdoor pilot. Tom Ellis headlines as Colin Glass, a loose-cannon CIA case officer, with Mike Weiss serving as showrunner and Dick Wolf and David Hudgins attached to the project.
The show pairs Ellis with Nick Gehlfuss as Bill Goodman, a by-the-book FBI officer forced to work in a secretive FBI–CIA fusion cell out of the New York station. They clash at first but slowly learn that their opposing approaches—one operating in the shadows, the other in the light—can become a tactical advantage against shared threats.
The hour-long premiere, titled "Directed Energy," opens with a top-secret U.S. weapon stolen from a defense contractor, prompting both agencies to investigate. Jeremy Sisto’s Jubal Valentine helps onboard Bill into the special program linking FBI and CIA operations and is also seen rallying agents on the FBI side of the case, underscoring Bill’s steep learning curve in covert work.
