Top Immigration Officials to Testify on Minnesota Enforcement Operation
Top immigration officials are scheduled to testify Tuesday before a House panel and are expected to face sharp questions about the Trump administration’s enforcement operation in the Minneapolis–St. Paul region. The heads of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, and U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services are due to appear. The operation began more than two months ago and drew criticism for detaining people without criminal records and for the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens, including Alex Pretti on Jan. 24. Democrats say they will not back funding for the Department of Homeland Security unless new restrictions and guardrails are imposed on federal immigration agents, a stance that has left lawmakers deadlocked with Republicans; if no deal is reached, DHS funding will lapse on Saturday.
