Total Chaos is a bleak, occasionally terrifying remake of a classic Doom mod
Sam Prebble, the creator known for Turbo Overkill, has remade his long-running Total Chaos Doom mod as a premium first-person game. Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and released on Steam in November, the project expands the original with several new chapters while preserving the mod’s grungy survival-horror core.
The game drops you ashore at Fort Oasis, a grey industrial town clinging to coastal cliffs, and funnels you through maze-like corridors and occasional exterior set pieces. Exteriors show dramatic, crumbling facades under roiling skies, while the interiors—twisting, angular passages that echo Doom’s lineage—mix environmental puzzles with keycard-style progression across nine levels.
Psychological horror threads through the experience: your shipwrecked character endures hallucinations that remake corridors into flesh-filled tunnels and reveal fragments of a troubled past.
