Tottenham captain Cristian Romero sent off for reckless foul on Casemiro

Cristian Romero was dismissed before the half-hour mark at Old Trafford after launching into a reckless challenge on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and crunching down on the Brazilian's ankle. While opinion was divided on the decision itself, Tottenham fans were left universally fuming following yet another red card for the club captain.

Referee Michael Oliver showed Romero a red card after VAR review, with the Premier League Match Centre on X saying: "The referee's call of red card to Romero for serious foul play was checked and confirmed by VAR - with it deemed that the challenge was made with excessive force and endangered an opponent." Fewer than 10 minutes later, Man Utd took the lead against their weakened visitors as Bryan Mbeumo steered the ball home after a clever set-piece routine.
