Tottenham substitute goalkeeper after two early mistakes
Tottenham Hotspur fell into an early hole in the Champions League round of 16 first leg at Atlético Madrid, finding themselves 4-0 down after 22 minutes. The London side conceded four goals within 16 minutes, the second-fastest 4-0 lead in Champions League history.
With the score already 0-3, manager Igor Tudor took off goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and brought on Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham’s usual starter who had begun the game on the bench. Tudor’s decision followed two costly errors by the 22-year-old: a slip that allowed Marcos Llorente to open the scoring in the sixth minute, and a missed ball from a back pass that Julian Alvarez turned into a third goal in the 15th minute.
Kinsky became the first goalkeeper in Champions League history to be substituted uninjured within the first 20 minutes. The Czech left the pitch visibly upset and was consoled by two coaches.
