Trae Young to miss Wizards debut until after All-Star break, per ESPN
Cbssports reports that Trae Young, who was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, will not make his Wizards debut until after the All-Star break, per ESPN.
Young has appeared in just 10 games this season because of MCL and quad injuries and, according to ESPN, will remain out until he is re-evaluated after the break. The Wizards have taken a cautious approach as they sit 10-28 this season and are focused on retaining a top-8 protected pick in the 2026 draft and adding a top prospect to the roster.
While Young hopes for an extension, it seems more likely he will pick up a $49 million player option for 2026-27 and play next season to try to raise his value. ESPN noted the word "re-evaluated" typically implies a player could miss additional time even after a ramp-up period; Young is expected to miss at least another month and likely more. In 10 games this season he is averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% on 3-pointers.
