Newcastle's Champions League campaign ended in the last 16 as Barcelona ran out 7-2 victors in Catalunya. Anthony Elanga struck twice in the first half to give the Magpies hope, but Barcelona turned the tie around after the break. The game began with Raphinha opening the scoring after six minutes following slips by Malick Thiaw and Lewis Hall.

Newcastle replied through Elanga — set up by Hall and Harvey Barnes — before Marc Bernal restored Barcelona's lead. Elanga capitalised on a Lamine Yamal backheel to level again, only for Kieran Trippier to concede a penalty on the stroke of half-time and Yamal to make it 3-2.

Barcelona were far stronger after the break. Fermin found the net to make it 4-2, then Robert Lewandowski twice and Raphinha, who finished after a poor Jacob Ramsey pass, completed the rout as the hosts sealed quarter-final progress. GOAL's ratings reflected a difficult night for Newcastle.
