The administration said it plans to resurrect many of the tariffs the Supreme Court invalidated, arguing a new approach will achieve President Trump’s trade goals. Mr. Trump announced a 15 percent global tariff on Saturday, and officials are launching additional trade investigations that could lead to steep duties on countries across Asia.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stressed that the policy has not changed, noting the 15 percent tariff could be kept for 150 days under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 and that the administration will use Section 301 investigations to pursue tariffs later.

He said inquiries launched on an accelerated timetable will focus on industrial excess capacity, forced labor, drug pricing, discrimination against U.S. tech firms and trade in seafood, rice and other products. The administration will also continue existing Section 301 probes into China and Brazil.
