A U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, was brought to his knees and fatally shot by Border Patrol officers in Minneapolis on Saturday, and President Trump responded from the Oval Office by posting social media messages that blamed local officials and “Democrat run Sanctuary Cities and States.” According to The New York Times, Mr.

Trump and an aide, Natalie Harp, worked through several posts during the day, and he spoke with aides including his deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, who called Mr. Pretti a “would-be assassin.” The president also posted photos of an agent with a bleeding hand and of a fingertip in a jar; Attorney General Pam Bondi later wrote that federal prosecutors would charge a suspect in the finger-biting incident.

The killing was described in the article as the second fatal shooting of a protester in Minneapolis by federal agents this month and came amid what the Times called an increasingly militarized deportation campaign directed by Mr. Trump and his aides. The piece said Democrats demanded accountability while some Republicans voiced concern about the conduct of the federal agents.

Mr. Trump told The Wall Street Journal that “We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination,” the Times reported.
