Trump names largely American Board of Peace for Gaza, taps U.S. general to lead force
President Trump established a new committee to oversee the Gaza Strip as it is rebuilt, composed primarily of top American diplomatic officials including his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and named a U.S. general to lead an international peacekeeping force to disarm Hamas and occupy Gaza, the White House said.
The executive board Mr. Trump called the "Board of Peace" lists three members of the Trump administration — Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff and Robert Gabriel — along with Mr. Kushner, World Bank head Ajay Banga, billionaire Marc Rowan and former British prime minister Tony Blair.
Mr. Trump named himself chairman; the board is backed by a legal United Nations mandate. The White House said additional members "will be announced over the coming weeks." Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers, the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command Central, was tapped to lead the "International Stabilization Force," which the U.N.
authorized to be deployed to Gaza as part of the plan. The White House did not immediately answer whether American troops would be part of that force, and it is not clear how the international force would ensure Gaza is demilitarized while Hamas has not disbanded its armed fighters.
