Trump calls Pretti and Renee Good shootings 'terrible' and says Good's death hit him 'even worse'
According to People, President Donald Trump spoke on Jan. 27 about the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, both killed by federal agents in Minneapolis amid protests and immigration enforcement activity, calling both shootings "terrible" and saying Good's death made him feel "even worse" because her parents were "tremendous Trump" fans.
The Department of Homeland Security's assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the Pretti killing occurred during a "targeted operation" against an "illegal alien wanted for violent assault," and that a man "approached" officers while armed and "violently resisted" as they tried to disarm him; Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara identified the victim as Pretti, a lawful gun owner with a permit.
Multiple witnesses have shared videos that contradict the DHS account, some saying Pretti appeared unarmed, and his family called the DHS account "sickening lies." The DHS's initial report to Congress said two federal agents fired their guns, and Trump acknowledged he did not believe Pretti was "acting as an assassin," which contrasts with earlier DHS claims that Pretti intended to "massacre" federal agents.
