Trump comments on Greenland raise fears after US capture of Venezuela’s Maduro
Fears are growing that Donald Trump could order U.S. military action in Greenland after he said the United States "needs Greenland" and following the U.S. capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, Independent.co reports. Trump told The Atlantic magazine, "We do need Greenland, absolutely.
We need it for defence," prompting Danish leader Mette Frederiksen to say it makes "absolutely no sense" to talk about the U.S. taking over the semi-autonomous territory. Greenland's leader declared "enough is enough," and British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said he stands with Denmark.
The president also urged Mexico to "get its act together" and said a military operation in Colombia "sounds good," while Secretary of State Marco Rubio sought to walk back Trump’s claim that the U.S. would "run" Venezuela, saying it would instead enforce an existing "oil quarantine." Maduro was taken to the United States after U.S.
