Trump Defends ICE After Minneapolis Shooting and Reviews Video in Oval Office
President Trump defended a federal immigration operation that led to an ICE agent shooting a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, telling New York Times reporters in the Oval Office that the woman, Renee Nicole Good, had tried to "run over" the officer and asking an aide to show video on a laptop.
When questioned about his conclusion, Mr. Trump asked an aide, Natalie Harp, to pull up footage and said, "That was a vicious situation that took place," apparently referring to what federal officials have said was an effort by Ms. Good to run down an ICE agent. He also said, "I want to see nobody get shot.
I want to see nobody screaming and trying to run over policemen either." Reporters told Mr. Trump that videos circulating on social media were unclear and that the slow-motion surveillance angle did not appear to show an officer had been run over. He watched the footage and said, "It's a terrible scene," adding, "I think it's horrible to watch.
No, I hate to see it," but he sidestepped whether the operation had gone too far and instead blamed his predecessor's immigration policies. Officials' accounts remained in dispute.
