Businessinsider reports President Donald Trump said he will not impose planned tariffs on several European countries after meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Trump announced on Truth Social that he and Rutte formed a "framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," and wrote, "I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st." He said more information is forthcoming and named Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff as part of a negotiation team. In a subsequent CNBC interview, Trump declined to provide details, calling the agreement "a little bit complex," and said the deal would last "forever."

Over the weekend Trump had threatened tariffs on Sweden, Norway, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland unless they agreed to transfer control of Greenland to the United States, with a 10% tariff set to start February 1 and rise to 25% in June. Stocks surged after the announcement, and specifics of the putative Greenland-and-Arctic deal remain undisclosed pending further information from the administration.
