Trump sends border czar Tom Homan to Minneapolis after fatal shooting
President Trump announced he was dispatching border czar Tom Homan to Minneapolis that evening amid bipartisan outcry over the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti and signs the Administration may pull back federal law enforcement efforts in the city. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said Homan — who served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during his first term — will report directly to him and that he has directed Homan to call Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Trump added the Administration is looking for “any and all Criminals” the state has in possession, and said Walz “understood” the move and was happy Homan was going to Minnesota. The White House told TIME that Homan would manage ICE operations on the ground in Minnesota and coordinate with others on ongoing fraud investigations.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Homan will be the “main point of contact on the ground in Minneapolis,” while Border Patrol commander-at-large Gregory Bovino will remain in charge of Customs and Border Protection.
