Last-minute announcements and abrupt policy changes by the Trump administration have added confusion to an already strained U.S. aviation system, from emergency flight cuts at busy airports to sudden changes in security rules. Most recently the Federal Aviation Administration suspended flights in the El Paso area for 10 days with little warning and then reversed the closure.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the move responded to drone incursions, while others told The New York Times the shutdown followed the use of an anti‑drone laser that had been loaned from the Pentagon without FAA assessment. The administration’s actions have at times unsettled airlines and travelers: a social media post about “decertifying” Canadian-made aircraft prompted confusion until officials clarified it applied only to new planes; and an FAA plan to cut 10 percent of flights at 40 busy airports arrived on short notice, forcing thousands of cancellations.
