U.S. and Board of Peace officials said the group is scheduled to meet in Washington on Feb. 19. The charter has divided several U.S. allies, including France and other European nations that declined to join. Critics call the board an example of efforts to dismantle the post-World War II international system, and analysts say it aims to create a rival to the United Nations with Mr.

Trump as chairman, giving him veto power over some decisions. The effort began focused on Gaza’s reconstruction, but its remit has broadened. One primary objective of the upcoming summit is to raise funds for reconstruction. The board met for the first time in Davos last month, where member states signed its founding charter.

More than 20 countries have joined so far, including Argentina, Hungary, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, publicly confirmed he will attend the Washington meeting. Countries must contribute $1 billion to become permanent members.
