TSA delays and how to check airport security wait times

Airport security checkpoints across the US are under pressure as a partial government shutdown leaves many TSA agents unpaid and some skipping work, producing longer-than-usual lines this week. Austin-Bergstrom urged travelers to arrive up to three hours before their flights after photos and videos showed lines stretching into the parking lot; KXAN reporter Ava Brendgord captured footage of the queue at about 5 a.m., which local outlets said had returned to more normal levels by 7 a.m.

Similar scenes have appeared at other airports, and congestion could worsen over the weekend as Spring Break travel coincides with many agents receiving their first $0 paycheck. Not every site saw extreme delays, but some airports experienced significant congestion: Business Insider staff observed a long line at LaGuardia, wait times at JFK exceeded 20 minutes at most screening points, and Houston Hobby had instances of three-hour waits the previous weekend.
