Thomas Tuchel said he has not yet spoken to Trent Alexander-Arnold after leaving him out of his expanded 35-man England squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, a decision that came a day after news of the player's split from Estelle Behnke. Tuchel highlighted Tino Livramento, Djed Spence and Jarell Quansah as offering "a slightly different profile" at right-back.

When asked whether he had been in contact with Alexander-Arnold, the manager replied, "Not yet." Asked if the player believes his England career could be over, Tuchel answered, "I don't know," while adding, "I know what Trent can give us." Alexander-Arnold has played just 26 minutes under Tuchel, his only appearance coming in a 1-0 win over Andorra last June, and his place in the World Cup squad remains uncertain as this is Tuchel's last selection before the final group is named.
