Tudor: Premier League survival is Tottenham's top priority
Tottenham interim manager Igor Tudor has acknowledged that Premier League survival is the club’s primary aim as they prepare for a Champions League last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid. The London side sit one point above the relegation zone with nine matches remaining, and Tudor has lost his first three games in charge while dealing with a growing injury list.
“Our first aim is Premier League and this needs to be said publicly,” Tudor said, while insisting the team still want to progress in Europe. The trip to the Metropolitano, where Spurs played the 2019 Champions League final, represents a very different test against a side with Champions League history, experience and quality.
There is a timely boost at the back: Cristian Romero is available despite his domestic suspension and Micky van de Ven is eligible for European selection. Tudor noted the importance of having defenders back in their usual positions after his side conceded nine goals in his opening three matches.
