Malcolm Turnbull told RN Breakfast he will not offer an opinion on who should lead the Liberal party but said if Angus Taylor wants to run he needs to "stand up and say" so, and that those who support him should "stand up and take responsibility". Turnbull also recalled pushing Peter Dutton to compile names on a petition to call a spill and said even Sussan Ley, "who is more moderate compared to Taylor or Andrew Hastie, isn’t actually a moderate," having backed Dutton in 2018.

Speculation is mounting over Taylor and a Liberal leadership challenge as colleagues consider their positions and the party’s next steps. A man has been charged after allegedly shining a torch at police during a protest in Sydney. Australia’s envoy to combat Islamophobia, Aftab Malik, called for NSW police to apologise after footage showed men praying being dragged by officers, saying the episode had produced "fear" for those involved and an "erosion of trust" in the community.
