Finnian Garbutt, 28, has revealed on Instagram that he is entering the “last stages” of his life after a four-year battle with skin cancer. He said doctors told him the disease had “progressed rapidly” after he began struggling with pain in his back and hip. Garbutt is known for his role as police constable Ryan Power in the BBC Northern Ireland drama Hope Street.

He wrote that sharing the news publicly will let him enjoy time with his family and friends. Since his diagnosis he said he has achieved many goals: 30 episodes on a TV show, a lead role in a forthcoming movie, buying a house, marrying his best friend and becoming a father to a daughter who “never fails to make me smile.” He thanked fans for their support.

Garbutt also posted a link to a GoFundMe set up for his soon-to-be widow, Louise, and their 1-year-old daughter, Saoirse.
