Mumbai is the first stop on Alexander Armstrong’s Indian odyssey, 8pm on Channel 5. An estate agent called Ravi shows him a multimillion-pound apartment, Raj takes him on a tour of the slum where he grew up, and there’s time to taste a food critic-approved “Mumbai burger” before visiting the Gateway of India, the waterfront monument where in 1948 colonial rule ended.

At 7.30pm on ITV1 Paul Brand examines why the cost of running a car, thought to be about £3,500 a year, is squeezing those on the lowest incomes in Tonight: Cars – What’s Driving Up Costs? The piece considers falling car ownership and the problems that follow when public transport is inadequate.

On BBC One the Dragons meet GP Catherine Fernando at 8pm as she puts a vegan spin on the traditional doctor’s bag, joined by returning guest Susie Ma and other pitches including a DIY infusion drink. At 9pm the remaining candidates on The Apprentice reach the halfway point and are shuttled off to Egypt to devise awaydays for corporate clients.
