Twelve South has released the Valet, a genuine Nappa leather desktop console that includes a Qi2 wireless charging puck and is available now for $179. The Valet is built with a weighted zinc alloy base that brings its total weight to 2.3 pounds and measures 9.75 inches by 7.5 inches.

It has rubberized stoppers, a minimalist design, and space to keep pocket essentials. The underside houses two USB-C ports — one for the power connection and a second for an optional cable that can charge a second device at 35W — and the unit is intended to charge one or two devices rather than act as a multi-device hub.

Twelve South included four cable routing posts that let users orient the Valet in portrait or landscape with the charging puck on either side. The charger has a magnetic, removable frame and comes with leather available in taupe or black and frame colors of taupe, ecru, brown, or black.

ZDNET's reviewer noted that placing a device on the charger lights two downward-facing indicators that dim after a few seconds, and that the wireless charger worked through a MagSafe-compatible phone case; the reviewer also said the black leather can show dust. ZDNET's buying advice recommends the Valet for buyers wanting a solid, simple way to consolidate a phone and pocket essentials, calling it one of the most solid-built desktop valets the reviewer tested.
