Almost a decade after Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi divided audiences with its portrayal of Luke Skywalker as a disillusioned exile, two Disney+ series have quietly reshaped that picture. The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett revisit the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, showing how Luke’s fall and later choices fit into a longer, more complicated story.

Set about five years after Return of the Jedi, the Mando-verse finds Luke attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order when its structure no longer exists. He appears in just two episodes — the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian and an interlude in The Book of Boba Fett — but in those scenes he is shown taking on new students, with Grogu likely among the first, and struggling with the role of Master.

These episodes also let viewers see Luke in his physical prime at around 28, capable of feats such as confronting Dark Troopers and teaching the ways of the Force.
