Two Stranger Things spin-offs confirmed; a third anime remains unverified
Movieweb reports that the Stranger Things franchise is expanding: two spin-offs are confirmed to be in development and a third project is rumored. One confirmed project, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, received a first look in November 2025 and is an animated series set in Hawkins in winter 1985 (between Seasons 2 and 3).
The show will depict the core kids facing new Upside Down monsters, appears to be targeted toward children with little to no horror, and — according to the Duffer brothers speaking to Culture Slate — intends to capture the feel of an ’80s Saturday-morning cartoon. Eric Robles is directing, the Duffer brothers serve as executive producers, and Animation Magazine says creature designer Carlos Huante was involved.
The other confirmed project is an untitled live-action spin-off the Duffer brothers told The Hollywood Reporter will be set in a different decade with new characters while remaining connected to the main universe. Finn Wolfhard told Variety on August 5, 2025, that the planned series is similar to David Lynch's Twin Peaks and “sort of an anthology,” and Matt Duffer said, “You’re starting with new characters.
