The United Arab Emirates and the United States have each pledged more than $1 billion to President Trump’s new Board of Peace for Gaza, two officials briefed on the board’s fundraising efforts said. The sum represents a small fraction of the money needed for Gaza’s recovery but signals Emirati willingness to back the initiative even as some American allies remain skeptical.

No country has yet publicly committed funds; an announcement could come at the board’s inaugural meeting on Feb. 19 in Washington. The Emirates has been one of Gaza’s largest humanitarian donors since the war began and has been preparing temporary housing in Rafah that could accommodate about 20,000 people, four people who have seen the plans said.

The land designated for the project is expected to be cleared of rubble and explosives in the coming weeks, two of those people added.
