Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that two Far Cry projects are in development, saying Vantage Studios has a solid pipeline underway. One project is Far Cry 7, reportedly developed under the codename Project Blackbird, and the other is a multiplayer spin-off that was known as Project Maverick.

Both were first reported in early 2023 and have faced delays as the company implements higher standards and additional quality checks. Historically, major Far Cry sequels arrived every two to three years, with the longest previous gap being four years. It will have been five years since Far Cry 6 by this fall.

Maverick began as an extraction shooter but has continued to evolve during development. Ubisoft’s multiplayer experiments—from Hyper Scape to XDefiant and a string of canceled live-service projects—have struggled to replicate the success of Rainbow Six Siege.
